Six months after the election, a federal court has issued a decision in the ongoing dispute over North Carolina’s Supreme Court election. Judge Richard Myers, appointed by former President Trump, rejected Jefferson Griffin’s attempts to invalidate thousands of ballots and overturn the 2024 election results. The ruling confirms Justice Allison Riggs’ victory.

In his 68-page decision, Judge Myers stated, “You establish the rules before the game. You don’t change them after the game is done.” The certification of Riggs’ victory is paused for seven days to allow for any appeal by Griffin.

Bob Phillips, Executive Director of Common Cause North Carolina, commented on the ruling: “Today’s ruling is a huge victory for North Carolina voters, fueled by North Carolina voters.” He highlighted the efforts of many who opposed Griffin’s challenges through calls, emails, rallies, and protests.

The decision follows widespread opposition from citizens across North Carolina. Crystal Marie Daniels from Mecklenburg County was among those targeted by Griffin’s challenges. She expressed her disapproval: “This [was] unjust and unbecoming behavior for a candidate who seeks a seat on a court that is supposed to protect constitutional rights … my constitutional rights cannot be negated.”

Common Cause NC is described as a nonpartisan grassroots organization focused on promoting democracy and ensuring government accountability.
