Eastbound lanes of West Friendly Avenue closed after water main break

The City of Greensboro announced on May 4 that both eastbound lanes of the 3900 block of West Friendly Avenue, between Rodman Road and Idlewild Avenue, are closed following an eight-inch water main break. The incident has left approximately 20 customers without water service.

City crews are working at the site and will remain until repairs are finished, the lanes reopened, and service restored. The city expects work to be completed by 4 p.m. today. Traffic cones and signs have been placed in the area to direct motorists, who are encouraged to use alternate routes to avoid delays.

Residents may experience discoloration or cloudy water after repairs. The city advises running cold water for several minutes through a faucet without an aerator—such as an outdoor spigot or bathtub—until the water runs clear.

For emergencies related to water or sewer issues—including main breaks, sewer stoppages, or changes in taste, odor, or color—residents can contact Water Resources’ 24-hour Dispatch at 336-373-2033.

More information about current lane and road closures is available on the city’s website at www.greensboro-nc.gov/RoadProjects. Residents can also subscribe there for email notifications about future street work.
