The Reasonover Creek Trail at DuPont State Recreational Forest is set for improvements, leading to temporary closures. The enhancements are part of the DSRF Master Recreation Plan aimed at accommodating heavy recreational use while enhancing environmental sustainability and protecting nearby streams’ water quality.
“We are excited to improve this valuable trail,” said Jane Dauster, recreation specialist for DSRF. “Various sections of the trail project are in protected habitat so the trail cannot be relocated. For these sections, we will need to use rock armoring to stabilize the eroding trail, especially near creeks and streams.”
Rock armoring involves using natural stone to stabilize trails, particularly in sloped areas within protected habitats. This method helps maintain the trail’s character while boosting sustainability and environmental protection.
DSRF officials plan to start work on Monday, June 9, with an expected completion by December 2025. The project will be overseen by DSRF staff and conducted in stages to minimize closures along Reasonover Creek Trail. Visitors are urged to adhere to all closure notices during their visits.
