The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of North Carolina has announced a federal complaint against Oscar Solorzano-Garcia, charging him with illegal reentry and committing violence on a mass transportation system. This follows an incident involving a stabbing on a Charlotte light-rail train.

According to federal prosecutors, the altercation occurred on Charlotte’s Lynx Blue Line, resulting in the victim, identified as “K.D.” in court documents, sustaining serious injuries, including a stab wound to the upper left chest. Authorities said that Solorzano-Garcia exited the train and was later detained by officers nearby. The Department of Justice (DOJ) release described Solorzano-Garcia as a Honduran national unlawfully present in the United States, who had been removed multiple times and previously convicted of robbery.

The DOJ outlined that the federal case includes charges of illegal reentry with a statutory maximum penalty of up to 10 years in prison and violence on mass transportation carrying a potential life sentence. The release highlighted that Solorzano-Garcia had previously served an 18-month prison sentence for illegal reentry following an earlier Border Patrol arrest.

Local reports on “Operation Charlotte’s Web,” led by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), noted over 425 arrests in the Charlotte area. Federal officials emphasized this operation targeted “dangerous criminal illegal aliens” with multi-agency involvement. Supporters have cited these efforts as evidence of public safety measures linked to immigration enforcement actions.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of North Carolina is responsible for prosecuting federal crimes within its jurisdiction, representing the United States in civil matters, and pursuing restitution related to federal judgments. The district encompasses 32 counties over more than 13,000 square miles with its main office located in Charlotte.
