Today, Governor Josh Stein announced that Daimler Truck Financial Services USA (DTFS) will establish its headquarters in Charlotte, North Carolina. This move is set to create 276 jobs and involves an investment of over $7.8 million.
Governor Stein expressed his satisfaction with the development: “I am pleased to welcome Daimler Truck Financial Services USA to North Carolina.” He noted the state’s appeal for financial service companies due to its skilled workforce and quality of life.
DTFS provides financing and leasing solutions for Daimler Truck North America, which manufactures Freightliner trucks, Western Star trucks, and Thomas Built Buses. The new headquarters will consolidate operations from Michigan and Texas into a 60,000-square-foot facility.
Kevin Bangston, president and CEO of DTFS, stated: “We’re thrilled to establish our new headquarters in the Ballantyne area—this move marks a pivotal step in aligning our team closer to DTNA.”
Commerce Secretary Lee Lilley highlighted Charlotte’s status as the second-largest banking center in the U.S., emphasizing the favorable business climate: “Daimler Truck knows the proximity to its existing manufacturing operations… makes North Carolina the best place to grow and expand.”
The average annual salary for these positions is expected at $133,940, surpassing Mecklenburg County’s average of $86,830. The potential payroll impact could exceed $36.9 million annually.
A Job Development Investment Grant (JDIG) has been approved by the state’s Economic Investment Committee. Over 12 years, this project could grow North Carolina’s economy by $1.08 billion. The JDIG agreement allows for up to $4,174,500 in reimbursements over 12 years based on performance verification.
Senator Woodson Bradley remarked on the collaboration required for this achievement: “This announcement wouldn’t be possible without the hard work of local and state partners.” Representative Laura Budd added that these jobs would be transformative for local talent.
Key partners include various state departments and local entities like Mecklenburg County and the City of Charlotte.
