Michael Angelo Crank, a 44-year-old resident of Charlotte, has been sentenced to 51 months in prison followed by supervised release for illegal firearm possession. This announcement was made by Russ Ferguson, U.S. Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina.
The case involved collaboration between Alicia Jones, Special Agent in Charge of the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), Charlotte Field Division, and Chief Johnny Jennings of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD).
Court records reveal that on August 15, 2024, an individual identified as T.T. called 911 to report that Crank had discharged a firearm during an argument while her children were present. Officers found five discharged shell cases and two stolen firearms at the residence. Footage from a home security system showed Crank with a gun in his hand following T.T. and her children into the yard.
Crank’s criminal history includes state felony convictions for assault and cocaine possession, as well as a federal conviction in South Carolina related to drug trafficking and firearms offenses.
Crank pleaded guilty on October 29, 2024, to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He is currently in federal custody awaiting transfer to a designated federal facility.
The investigation was led by ATF and CMPD with prosecution handled by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Charlotte.
