Following the destruction caused by Hurricane Helene in Western North Carolina, Common Cause North Carolina has pledged support for recovery efforts. Bob Phillips, the executive director of the organization, issued a statement expressing sympathy and announcing their plans to assist affected communities.
“Our hearts break for our neighbors, friends, partners, and loved ones impacted by Hurricane Helene in Western North Carolina,” Phillips stated. He added that the team is prepared to “amplify community-based relief efforts” with a financial contribution of $25,000. This sum will be distributed among various disaster relief and mutual aid groups providing essential services such as food, water, and shelter throughout Western North Carolina counties and the Qualla Boundary.
Phillips also mentioned their upcoming CAROLINADAZE benefit concert scheduled for October 13 at Salvage Station in Asheville. The venue has suffered significant flood damage. “We’re focused on supporting the Salvage Station team and staff as we navigate next steps,” he said, promising updates via social media once more information becomes available.
In addition to immediate relief efforts, Common Cause North Carolina is committed to ensuring that this natural disaster does not impede citizens’ ability to vote. “The road to recovery is long and our top priority is rebuilding our communities together,” Phillips emphasized.
