Clemmons Educational State Forest in Clayton has transitioned to its summer hours, effective March 1. The forest will maintain these hours through October 31. Visitors can access the forest from Tuesday to Friday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., and on weekends from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. It will also be open on Good Friday and Independence Day but remains closed on Mondays.
The forest offers educational programs for school groups, homeschoolers, scouts, and others interested in learning about forestry, water, soils, and wildlife. A minimum of ten students is required to schedule a program, with accommodations available for up to one hundred students.
Visitors can explore four hiking trails within the forest. Two audio trails, the Talking Tree Trail and the Talking Rocks Trail, are each slightly over half a mile long. For those preferring longer hikes, the Forest Demonstration Trail spans 2.2 miles, while the Watershed Extension Loop is just under three miles.
Picnic facilities are available for visitors, including individual tables under tree canopies and a large shelter that can be reserved for larger gatherings. Restrooms are conveniently located nearby.
