The City’s Employee Engagement Advisory Committee, together with Creative Greensboro, announced on Apr. 30 that it will host the Taste of the Asian/Pacific Islander Diaspora at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 21, at the Greensboro Cultural Center located at 200 N. Davie St. Attendance is free but guests are required to register in advance through www.greensboro-nc.gov/HRTickets.

This event is part of a four-part cultural mixer series called “Taste of the Diaspora: Foodways & Futures,” organized by the Human Rights Department. The series aims to celebrate heritage through food traditions from various diasporas, encourage community storytelling and arts engagement, and increase public awareness about city resources and opportunities for civic involvement.

The upcoming program will highlight the history and traditions of Asia and Pacific Islands by featuring cultural performances as well as foods inspired by Asian, Polynesian, Melanesian, and Micronesian cuisines prepared by local chefs. The first installment in February focused on African culture; future events scheduled for later this year will spotlight Hispanic heritage on September 24 and European heritage on November 18.

According to organizers, the Human Rights Department works to promote mutual understanding, respect, and fair treatment for all residents regardless of race, color, national origin, religion, gender, age, disability or familial status. Additional information about department programs can be found at www.greensboro-nc.gov/HR.

For further details about this event or other related programming from the Human Rights Department’s Outreach and Education Coordinator Vonda Wingate may be contacted at 336-373-2038.
