Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools marked the beginning of the 2025-2026 academic year with messages and visits from Superintendent Dr. Crystal Hill, according to a series of posts on the district’s official social media account.
On August 23, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools posted: “Welcome back, CMS! Two days later, on August 25, another post highlighted transportation efforts and in-person engagement by leadership: ” Welcome to the 25-26 school year! Buses rolled off the lots early morning to get students safely to school. Superintendent Dr. Crystal Hill was on hand to greet bus drivers, before visiting several schools today. First stop… Garinger HS #endlesspossibilities https://t.co/cMca7b2V5A”
Later that day, additional visits were documented: “We’re continuing the momentum for a fantastic first day! Superintendent Dr. Crystal Hill visited Elizabeth Traditional Elementary and Merry Oaks International Academy to greet students and staff. #CMSFirstDay #CharlotteMecklenburgSchools #CMS #BackToSchool #NewSchoolYear https://t.co/TKXfvUqcgi”
The start of this school year comes amid staffing challenges for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. According to district officials, nearly 2,100 teachers left last year and almost 400 positions remain unfilled as classes begin. The district does not expect all vacancies will be filled at the start of term—a concern expressed by students as reported by WCNC (source).
Superintendent Dr. Crystal Hill’s outreach at multiple campuses signals an effort by leadership to maintain morale and community engagement as schools navigate these ongoing staffing shortages.
