Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, the public school district serving Mecklenburg County in North Carolina, recently highlighted several developments for the new academic year through a series of social media posts.

On August 26, 2025, the district shared remarks from Superintendent Dr. Hill about improvements and changes for students and staff. In the post, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools stated: “Recently, Superintendent Dr. Hill spoke about what’s new this year, including a major drop in teacher turnover (from 23% to 8%!), the new Infinite Campus portal for parents, and much more.” The post also linked to a full interview with Dr. Hill.

A subsequent announcement on August 27 reminded families and employees of an upcoming holiday closure: “MARK YOUR CALENDARS! In observance of Labor Day all CMS Offices and Schools will be closed on Monday, September 1, 2025.”

Later that day, the district provided updates from Superintendent Dr. Hill’s visits to local schools during the first week of classes: “Dr. Hill’s #CMSFirstWeek tour continued on Day 3 w/ visits to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Academy & Irwin Academic Center. Special thanks to the student-run ‘The Daily Grind’ at CMA for the coffee boost & the gifts from Irwin! So much positive energy in our schools.”

These announcements come as Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools continues efforts to address staffing challenges that have drawn attention from both staff and students. Last year, more than 2,100 teachers left the district, leaving nearly 400 teaching positions unfilled ahead of this school year—a situation that has raised concerns among students about classroom coverage (WCNC). The reported reduction in teacher turnover by Dr. Hill marks a significant change compared to previous years.
