Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, the public school district serving Charlotte and surrounding areas, has recently announced a series of events and updates for families and community members through its official Twitter account.
On October 3, 2025, the district invited families and community partners to an upcoming safety summit, stating: “We are hosting an event bringing together families and community partners who are committed to safety for a two-hour summit. Join us on Oct. 21 at 5:30 p.m. at E.E. Waddell High School. Safety is our shared responsibility! RSVP at https://t.co/b7v6jwpsI5 https://t.co/VDpxF4hXOs”.
Later that day, the district promoted its weekly update with the message: “This week’s edition of CMS Inside Connection has an important message about progress reports and report cards, our CMS Principal of the Year, a carpool takeover by the Carolina Panthers and more. Don’t miss it! https://t.co/EwtdG78TIP https://t.co/R7BQwsw9CX”.
On October 6, 2025, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools highlighted another initiative aimed at family engagement: “Family Academy Lunch & Learn: Explore all things elementary! Connect with CMS Specialists to learn about our literacy and math curriculum, share strategies & resources you can use to reinforce learning. October 9, 2025 12-1 PM https://t.co/2fNk79R2pO https://t.co/jrsOL7To5K”.
These announcements come as Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools continues to address significant staffing challenges. The district needs nearly 400 teachers to be fully staffed before the new school year begins—a situation resulting from more than 2,100 teachers leaving last year. District officials have indicated that they do not expect all vacancies will be filled in time for classes to start, raising concerns among students (source).
