Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools announced a series of closures and schedule changes due to winter weather warnings, according to posts made on the district’s official X (formerly Twitter) account.

On January 23, 2026, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools posted: ” Due to winter weather warnings this weekend, all field trips, athletic events, & Community Use of Schools activities scheduled are canceled. We will continue to monitor weather conditions over the coming days & will alert of any further schedule changes. “

Further updates were provided on January 25, 2026: ” All CMS district, school, and work locations will be closed on Monday, Jan. 26, 2026.

We will continue monitoring National Weather Service updates and keep families informed of any district or school schedule changes, if necessary.

The following day, another closure was announced for Tuesday: ” Due to winter weather conditions across the county, CMS will have a remote school day for students on Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2026. All CMS district, school and work locations will be closed for students and staff.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools has faced ongoing staffing challenges in recent years. The district needed nearly 400 teachers before the start of the current school year after more than 2,100 teachers left during the previous year—a situation that has raised concerns among students about adequate staffing levels (source).
