Reginald Maraeus Moses, a 21-year-old resident of Charlotte, has been sentenced to 27 months in federal prison for stealing firearms from a licensed dealer. The sentencing was announced by Russ Ferguson, U.S. Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina. Following his prison term, Moses will also serve two years under court supervision.
The case stems from an incident on February 20, 2024, when Moses crashed a stolen vehicle into Carolina Sporting Arms Company at 8055 South Boulevard in Charlotte. According to court records, he and an accomplice broke into the store and stole 20 firearms—18 handguns and two long guns.
Moses pleaded guilty to theft of a firearm from a licensed dealer as well as aiding and abetting the crime.
Alicia Jones, Special Agent in Charge of the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) Charlotte Field Division, and Chief Johnny Jennings of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department joined U.S. Attorney Ferguson in announcing the sentence.
“In making today’s announcement,” said U.S. Attorney Ferguson, “U.S. Attorney Ferguson thanked the ATF and CMPD for their investigation of the case.”
The prosecution was handled by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Charlotte.
This case is part of Operation Take Back America—a nationwide initiative that brings together resources from agencies such as the Department’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN). The program aims to counter illegal immigration, dismantle cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and protect communities from violent crime.
