Charlotte FC to host three Liga MX teams in Leagues Cup phase one

Charlotte Football Club announced on May 1 that tickets for the first phase of the Leagues Cup at Bank of America Stadium will go on sale to the public starting Thursday, April 30 at 2:00 p.m., with a presale for Season Ticket Members beginning earlier that day at 10:00 a.m. The event marks the return of Leagues Cup to Charlotte, featuring matches against three prominent Liga MX teams.

The tournament is significant as it brings together clubs from Major League Soccer and Mexico’s Liga MX, providing fans with high-profile international soccer matchups. According to Charlotte Football Club, “Leagues Cup is back at Bank of America Stadium on August 4, and tickets for Phase One go live to the public Thursday, April 30 at 2:00 p.m., with a Season Ticket Member presale starting April 30 at 10:00 a.m.*”

The club said it will welcome Pumas UNAM for their first meeting. Pumas are currently ranked fifth in Liga MX during the Clausura season and have won seven Mexican championships. The team has been home to well-known players such as Hugo Sanchez and Jorge Campos and is captained by Keylor Navas. Atlas FC will also face Charlotte FC in group play; Atlas currently sits sixth in Liga MX standings and has recently won titles in Apertura 2021 and Clausura 2022.

Pachuca, another seven-time champion from Mexico’s top division, will visit Charlotte for the second consecutive summer but this time meet Charlotte FC directly. Pachuca previously played Real Madrid before over 70,000 fans at Bank of America Stadium during the FIFA Club World Cup.

Charlotte Football Club participates in Major League Soccer as part of the Eastern Conference according to its official website.
