The Carolina Hurricanes announced on Apr. 30 that they will play the Philadelphia Flyers in the second round of the 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
This matchup is notable as it marks the first playoff meeting between the Hurricanes (formerly Whalers) and the Flyers. The series will begin in Raleigh, with dates to be determined, as Carolina holds home-ice advantage throughout the Eastern Conference playoffs.
During this season, Carolina recorded three wins and one overtime loss against Philadelphia, with every game requiring either overtime or a shootout. The announcement highlighted that “Seth Jarvis scored in overtime and 10 different skaters recorded a point as the Canes topped the Flyers 4-3 at Lenovo Center.” Additionally, “Carolina erased a two-goal deficit and held strong in a shootout, knocking off the Flyers 4-3 at Xfinity Mobile Arena,” while another contest saw them win by a “3-2 final in Raleigh.” Despite missing several regulars late in the season, Carolina secured an important point with a shootout loss that helped clinch their top seed.
According to the official website, Lenovo Center serves as home for the Hurricanes and features over 700,000 square feet of space with multiple seating levels and amenities such as suites and concession stands. The venue can accommodate up to 20,000 people and hosts more than 150 events each year according to its official website. The team’s presence contributes over $200 million annually to Raleigh’s local economy through events and community engagement according to its official website.
The Hurricanes have also recognized players like Eric Staal and Rod Brind’Amour for their significant contributions by inducting them into their Hall of Fame according to their official website. The team achieved a major milestone by winning its first Stanley Cup championship in 2006 according to their official website.
A full schedule for Round Two will be released soon by the National Hockey League. Tickets are currently available for purchase.
