Bank of America expands free museum access for America’s 250th anniversary
Bank of America announced on June 24 that it is expanding its Museums on Us program to offer free access to 250 cultural and civic institutions nationwide as part of the country’s upcoming 250th anniversary celebrations.
The Museums on Us program provides eligible Bank of America, Merrill, and Bank of America Private Bank cardholders with free general admission during the first full weekend of every month. The expansion increases the number of participating museums and cultural institutions to 250 across the United States. “Visiting one of these museums is an opportunity to celebrate the people, places and institutions that have shaped our country and continue to define our communities,” said Meghan Hughes, Head of Arts & Heritage. “As people travel and gather for July 4th weekend, we’re encouraging cardholders to take advantage of Museums on Us and to experience these additional programs celebrating our nation’s history.”
In addition to expanded museum access, Bank of America outlined several local initiatives supporting the anniversary. In Washington, D.C., a grant will extend National Archives operating hours until 10:00 p.m. from June 22 through July 5 so more visitors can view the Declaration of Independence during its milestone year. In Boston, support will be provided for Massachusetts’ Fourth of July events including MA250 + Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular. Other supported events include The Henry Ford’s Salute to America in Detroit; free admission at Miami's Freedom Tower during FIFA World Cup; fundraising efforts for New York's Intrepid Museum; North Carolina Symphony concerts themed around American heritage; Philadelphia programming such as The Declaration’s Journey at the Museum of the American Revolution; Virginia's Mobile Museum Experience highlighting state history; a founding gift for North Dakota's Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library opening July 4; conservation grants for presidential portraits at Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery; and partnerships offering thousands of World Cup tickets through Vet Tix.
Cardholders can participate by presenting their eligible credit or debit card along with government-issued identification during designated weekends. More information about participating sites is available via dedicated online maps.
According to Bank of America representatives, these initiatives are designed "to help expand access to institutions and experiences that invite people to reflect on the nation’s past, participate in civic life, and celebrate communities shaping America's future."
