Asa Shaquille Holloway, a 32-year-old resident of Asheville, has been sentenced to 41 months in prison and three years of supervised release for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and cocaine base. The sentence was announced by Russ Ferguson, U.S. Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina. Holloway’s new sentence will begin after he completes an existing 18-month term for violating federal supervised release.

The case involved cooperation between multiple agencies. Jae W. Chung, Acting Special Agent in Charge of the Atlanta Field Division of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), which oversees the Charlotte District Office, and Chief Michael Lamb of the Asheville Police Department joined U.S. Attorney Ferguson in announcing the sentencing.

Court records indicate that in December 2023, Holloway was under court supervision following a prior federal firearms conviction. On December 19, 2023, federal probation officers searched his residence and found 21.37 grams of methamphetamine, digital scales, clear plastic baggies, and a .45 caliber magazine. This led to an arrest warrant for violating supervised release conditions.

On January 30, 2024, Asheville Police Department officers arrested Holloway on this warrant. During the arrest and subsequent search of Holloway and his vehicle, police recovered over 14 grams of crack cocaine and 3.34 grams of methamphetamine.

Holloway is currently in federal custody and will be transferred to the Federal Bureau of Prisons once a facility is designated.

U.S. Attorney Ferguson expressed appreciation for the investigative efforts by both the DEA and Asheville Police Department.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Christopher S. Hess prosecuted the case from the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Asheville.
