Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department announced the arrest of Kelvin Javier Molina Garcia in connection with the shooting death of John Glenn Martinez. The incident occurred while Martinez was delivering food.
According to The Charlotte Observer, Molina Garcia, 30, was apprehended in Mesquite, Texas. The shooting took place at 8:30 p.m. on Elmin Street. Despite officers’ efforts to save him, Martinez succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Molina Garcia is currently awaiting extradition to Charlotte.
Homicides in Charlotte decreased by 13% last year compared to the previous year, with 96 cases reported. This reduction highlights the effectiveness of local law enforcement strategies in addressing violent crime. Aggravated assaults also declined by 20%, contributing to overall community safety.
The Council on Criminal Justice reported that the average homicide rate in U.S. cities fell by 21% last year, equating to 922 fewer homicides. This drop positions the national rate as potentially the lowest since 1900. Additionally, delivery drivers face heightened risks, with studies showing nearly 22% experiencing injuries and 21% assaults on the job nationwide.
