The cost of boneless New York strip steak at Food Lion has increased by 134% since President Joe Biden’s (D) Inauguration Day in 2021.

That’s according to an analysis of Food Lion grocery ads by Old North News.

The price of boneless New York strip steak at the supermarket chain cost $5.99 per lb in Jan. 2021, which is $8.00 less than the $13.99 per lb cost for the same item as of September 4, 2024. 

The analysis also found a 203% price increase in salad dressings, a 158% increase in the price of cucumbers, and a 134% increase in the price New York strip steak. 

Those numbers outpace the supposed 2.2% inflation rate for food for the last year, as reported by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). 

North Carolina has the second highest rate of inflation across the country, according to a report from Old North News. Since January of 2021, the state has seen a 21.7% increase in the cost of goods and services, surpassing the national average of 20.2% and just behind the highest reported individual state increase of 21.8%. 

Headquartered in Salisbury, North Carolina, Food Lion grocery stores was founded in 1957 under the name of Food Town, a single grocery store in Salisbury. The supermarket chain now operates over 1100 locations across ten states. 

There are 545 Food Lion stores across 244 cities in North Carolina.
