The question of whether Sen. Robert "Ben" Clark (D-Cumberland) actually lives in the area he represents, District 21, is still unanswered, according to The Carolina Journal.
The publication reported on Sept. 2 alleging that it "has found information suggesting for several years the Clarks may not have been truthful in the home addresses they filed with local and state election officials."
From 2016-2019, tax bills were sent to a home on Poplar Hill Road, just east of Fayetteville, and listed Robert and Dion Clark as the owners, the journal reported. Ben is the senator for District 21 and Dion, his wife, is a spokeswoman for State Auditor Beth Wood.
While the Clarks have said that they live in Raeford with Ben's parents, which is in District 21 and where they are registered to vote, there is still concern over his actual residency, the journal said in its report. However, the journal did report that the Clarks won a court case two years ago challenging their residency.
If it's proven that they don't reside where they have voted, they could be found guilty of making a false affidavit, a Class I felony, the journal reported.
